US President Donald Trump announced via Truth Social that he has agreed to suspend the bombing and attack of Iran for a period of two weeks. The decision follows conversations with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir, who requested that the United States hold off on military action.

In his post, Trump detailed that the suspension is conditional on Iran agreeing to the complete and safe opening of the Strait of Hormuz. He described the arrangement as a double-sided ceasefire and confirmed that the United States has received a ten-point proposal from Iran. He noted that almost all points of past contention between the US and Iran have been agreed upon, and that the two-week period will allow the agreement to be finalised and consummated.

The President said the temporary halt follows the achievement and surpassing of all US military objectives in the conflict. He emphasised that the period will allow for the completion of a definitive agreement concerning long-term peace with Iran and stability in West Asia. Trump described the ten-point proposal as a workable basis for negotiations.

Expressing his perspective on behalf of the United States and representing the countries of West Asia, Trump said it is an honour to have this long-term issue close to resolution and thanked all parties involved for their attention.

The two-week suspension comes amid heightened tensions in the region and may provide an opportunity for diplomatic progress. Analysts have highlighted that successful implementation of the agreement could affect global oil markets, given the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz, through which a large percentage of the world’s oil supply passes.

President Trump’s announcement marks a major diplomatic step in the ongoing conflict, signalling a possible shift from military action towards negotiation and long-term peace initiatives in the West Asia.
