Motunrayo Bakare, sister of Afrobeat singer Seun Kuti, has joined the ongoing online dispute involving her brother and social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM).
The controversy reportedly escalated after social commentator Blord was released, leading VDM to call out activist Omoyele Sowore over his role in the matter.
In a video making rounds online, Motunrayo directed harsh criticism at the group known as “Ratels,” claiming they lack proper upbringing and respect for the legacy of their father, the legendary Fela Kuti.
She questioned whether VDM now sees himself as being on the same level as Fela, referencing earlier comments where he reportedly accused Ratels of involving Fela’s name whenever Seun Kuti is mentioned.
Motunrayo also stated that if she were in charge of managing her father’s estate, she would have taken legal action against several individuals for allegedly misusing Fela’s name.
Turning her attention to VDM, she made personal remarks about his family background, alleging that his father abandoned the household.
She further mocked both VDM and his supporters, suggesting that many of them are financially struggling while she benefits from her father’s enduring legacy.
This comes after Seun Kuti himself described Ratels as “rats” for their attacks on him, insisting that he maintains friendships with both Sowore and VDM and will not take sides against either.
The remarks have sparked mixed reactions online, with critics accusing Motunrayo of speaking out of anger, while others argued that VDM never disrespected Fela Kuti. Some users even controversially claimed that VDM has surpassed Fela’s influence.
