Former governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Nasarawa state during 2019 and 2023 general elections, Mr. David Ombugadu, has revealed that he joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to deliver President Bola Ahmed Tinubu come 2027, but his supporters were denied registration.
He disclosed this during an interface with members of the correspondents chapel of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Lafia on Thursday April 2, 2026.
Ombugadu, who recently defected to APC and weeks later dumped same party to PDP on a ground of marginalisation, said he was ready to deliver President Tinubu come 2027, but his supporters were denied registration on APC e-registration.
He explained that he requested the party to open a portal to register his members who left the opposition party to join the APC but they denied him that chance.
“I didn’t request any position to be given to me in the party, even ward chairman or secretary I didn’t request. I only requested registration of my members which they rejected, that was the reason I left the APC again,” he said.
Consequently, Umbugadu declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election on the platform of PDP.
He said he is back to PDP with full capacity, as according to him, “We have the people and we also have blueprint that would improve on the lives of the people of the state and the country at large, when elected as governor come 2027.”
Ombugadu, who took his time to outline his achievements in the area of water, employment, empowerment, health, among others while in office as former House of Representatives member, said he would develop the state, if given the opportunity in 2027.
He also disclosed that he would contest for the bye election of Nasarawa North Senatorial District vacant seat, to allow him facilitate projects that would bring development in the zone.
He stressed that his senatorial ambition is not for 2027, rather for 2026.
“I will contest the Nasarawa North senatorial by-election. I will go to the Senate in 2026 and contest for the governorship of the state in 2027,” he emphasised.
He therefore, solicited for the support of the citizens of Nasarawa North and the state to enable him succeed.
Speaking, Mr. Francis Orogu, PDP National Vice Chairman, North Central urged the people of the state to support the party to succeed.
The PDP National vice chairman also drummed support for Ombugadu to succeed.
