The 2023 presidential candidate for the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Prince Adewale Adebayo, has declared that Nigeria can never be one party state.
He stated this on Thursday at the SDP/TNN summit organised to receive the Team New Nigeria (TNN) into the SDP.
The event held at Sabon Gari Stadium in Kano metropolis.
“There can never be a one party state in Nigeria because we are here, you are here and we can see the diversity of Nigeria, you can see the energy. Our people have come out to organise this event.
“Anybody dreaming of a one party state has to leave Nigeria by way of Cameroon and find their one party state somewhere.
“What we are going to have is a mult-party democracy and the only way you can stay in power is if you serve the people. If you serve the people, you don’t waste your money, you don’t wast your time.
“Lete tell you today, I’m not God Almighty, I’m just a human being, but as far as Nigeria is concerned, the government of Bola Ahmed Tinubu ends next year,” he declared.
He called on Nigerians not to stay at home, saying others will do it, reminding them that it’s their duty as citizens to rise together to fix the country.
He warned against selling of votes while calling on all Nigerians to rise and join the parties of their choice as a way of contributing their part in making the country a better place.
The National Chairman of SDP, Sadiq Umar Abubakar Gombe, welcomed the TNN into the fold of the party, describing it as a combination of extensive deliberations and strategic realignments.
“It is worth noting that while the TNN initially sought registration as an independent political party, an aspiration unfairly constrained by the electoral umpire, the leadership of the TNN recognized a shared ideological soul in the SDP.
“This decision to close ranks, is a testament to their commitment to strengthening our Democratic fabric and ensuring that every Nigerian has a level playing field to pursue their aspirations for good governance, security and economic opportunity,” he stated.
He commended the president of the TNN, Dr. Modibbo Yakubu Farakwai, for his exceptional leadership and selfless dedication to Nigerian project.
