Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi could miss the rest of the campaign after scans confirmed a Grade 2 hamstring injury sustained during Beşiktaş’s Istanbul derby defeat to Fenerbahçe last weekend.

The Nigerian midfielder is expected to be sidelined for up to six weeks, a timeline that effectively rules him out for the remainder of the Turkish Super Lig season.

Wilfred Ndidi has made 22 league appearances for the Black Eagles this term, scoring twice after joining from Leicester City last summer.

The injury comes as a blow for both club and country, with the 28-year-old having established himself as a key figure since his move to Istanbul.

Meanwhile, Felix Agu has voiced strong support for fellow Nigerian international Victor Boniface, who has resumed training after months out with a serious knee injury.

Boniface endured a difficult 2025-2026 season after undergoing surgery in January, leaving Werder Bremen uncertain about his return. The striker has now rejoined first-team sessions, with the club carefully managing his workload.

“I’m very happy to see him back here because I get along well with him,” Agu told Deichstube.

Agu admitted Boniface still needs time to regain sharpness. “I think he still needs a little time to get back into his rhythm,” he stated.

Despite the cautious tone, the full-back was clear about the forward’s talent. “But we all know his quality,” he asserted.

“He may have only displayed glimpses of it in matches, but you see it repeatedly in training. When he drops deep, turns, and plays passes, with such timing, such vision! That’s simply an absolute quality!”

Agu also pointed to Boniface’s past success with Bayer Leverkusen, adding: “He wasn’t a key player in Leverkusen’s championship-winning team for nothing.”

Looking ahead, Agu remains hopeful about the striker’s impact before the season ends. He noted, “If Victor can even come close to that level, then he can help us. The important thing is that he returns to the fitness level necessary to assist us on the field.”
