Yobe PDP Assembly member defects to APC

Hon. Sadiq Yahya

A member of the Yobe State House of Assembly representing Bade East Constituency, Hon. Sadiq Yahya, has today formally dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and defected to the All Progressives Congress, (APC).

The lawmaker, who presented his defection letter on the floor of the House, said his decision was driven by the persistent internal crisis within the opposition party at both national and state levels.

“The prolonged instability in the PDP marked by factional disputes, leadership tussles, and a series of court cases has continued to raise concerns about the party’s cohesion and future,” he said.

According to the lawmaker, his decision to join the APC followed extensive consultations with political stakeholders, supporters, and community leaders within his constituency.

Receiving the letter of the defection, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Chiroma Buba Mashio, described the defection as a significant step towards strengthening APC unity in the state.

The speaker assured the defecting lawmaker of equal opportunities within the APC, adding that the party remains committed to fostering inclusivity and delivering dividends of democracy to the people of the State.
