…As Gov. Lawal says APC move ‘strategic’ for Zamfara —

Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Zamfara State have endorsed President Bola Tinubu and Governor Dauda Lawal for re-election in the 2027 general elections.

The endorsement was announced at a high-level stakeholders’ meeting held on Saturday at the Government House in Gusau, where party leaders across the state gathered to deliberate on unity and preparations ahead of the next electoral cycle.

The meeting brought together prominent APC figures, including former governors Ahmed Sani Yarima, Mahmuda Aliyu Shinkafi, Abdul’aziz Yari and Bello Matawalle, as well as elected officials, party elders, youth and women representatives from the state’s 14 local government areas.

Speaking at the meeting, Governor Lawal described his administration’s alignment with the APC as a strategic step aimed at repositioning Zamfara and strengthening collaboration with the Federal Government.

“Our decision to join the APC was not just political but strategic. It enables us to align with national initiatives, leverage federal support and contribute to the Renewed Hope Agenda,” he said.

The governor thanked stakeholders for their support during consultations leading to the political realignment, noting that their commitment had been crucial to the process.

He said his administration remains focused on restoring stability, rebuilding institutions and delivering development across the state.

“In a short time, we have made significant progress through collective effort, disciplined leadership and shared commitment,” Mr Lawal added.

The governor urged party members to prioritise unity and internal discipline as political activities ahead of 2027 begin to gather momentum.

“Politics involves negotiation, compromise and consensus-building. While many seek opportunities, not all expectations can be met immediately. Leadership is not defined solely by positions but by service and contribution,” he said.

Mr Lawal assured stakeholders that his administration would continue to uphold fairness, equity and transparency, stressing the importance of avoiding actions capable of creating division within the party.

At the meeting, the four former governors present reaffirmed their commitment to the APC and expressed full support for the re-election bids of both Messrs Tinubu and Lawal.

In a communiqué read by the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, the stakeholders said the gathering provided an opportunity for in-depth discussions on party unity, governance coordination, security challenges and preparations for the 2027 elections.

The communiqué also emphasised the need for cohesion within the party to consolidate ongoing governance efforts at both the state and federal levels.

The endorsement signals early political alignment within Zamfara APC as parties begin to position ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Observers say such moves could shape internal party dynamics and influence broader political calculations in the coming months, particularly as stakeholders push for continuity and consolidation of current policies.
