Why 100-year-old woman is building her own grave

In a report by Tayari West TV, Dorothy said the grave was one of the dreams she had always wished to fulfil before her death.

The elderly woman, who remains physically active and strong, said her husband and children passed away, leaving her with no surviving immediate family.

She joyfully added that people’s opinions about her decision did not concern her, as she was only preparing her final home.

“People can say or think that I am strange, but this is something I have wanted for many years. I wanted to prepare my final home while I am still alive and energetic enough to supervise the work,” she said.

According to her, the project was delayed for years because she feared meeting dishonest builders.

“Many are dishonest; they overcharge elderly people and misuse construction materials. I waited until I found trustworthy people who could do exactly what I wanted,” she explained.

The centenarian further said she plans to organise a ceremony once the grave is complete—an event she describes as similar to a house-warming party.

She hopes the celebration will coincide with her birthday.

Some community members criticised Dorothy for building a modern structure for her grave while she still lives in a modest home.

However, she dismissed the criticism, saying her grave is her permanent home and therefore deserves the best.

“This is my permanent home. Others build houses where they stay temporarily, but this one will be my home forever,” she said with a smile.

The grave is approximately 10 feet deep and features a uniquely designed inner chamber, similar to those commonly found in Muslim burial styles, although she is a Christian.

The 100-year-old woman has also called on well-wishers to support her with gifts and contributions towards the planned celebration, adding that she has already purchased her coffin.
