No fewer than 18 governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress on Friday reaffirmed their loyalty to Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, as chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, dismissing reports of a leadership change as false and misleading.
The governors, who rose from a closed-door meeting at the Imo Lodge, described the speculation of an internal shake-up as baseless, insisting that the forum remained united and focused ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Rumours had emerged on Thursday suggesting that Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, had been named as a replacement for Uzodimma—an assertion swiftly debunked by the APC governors.
Addressing journalists after the meeting, Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, moved a motion endorsing Uzodimma and Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, as chairman and deputy chairman of the forum, respectively.
Idris said there was no crisis warranting a leadership change, adding, “We don’t have any problem to justify what has been speculated. I hereby move a vote of confidence in our chairman and his deputy.”
Also speaking, Sani dismissed the reports as “unfortunate,” stressing that the forum remained cohesive and aligned with the broader goals of the party.
“All of us woke up to that very unfortunate story across the media, but the truth is that the Progressive Governors’ Forum is united. We are stronger now than ever,” he said.
He added that the governors were firmly behind the President and committed to strengthening the party ahead of future elections.
In his remarks, Uzodimma reiterated the governors’ collective resolve to support the President’s re-election bid in 2027, noting that the party remained focused on governance and service delivery.
According to him, “Governors of the APC are united and determined to ensure victory in the forthcoming elections. We will continue to work harder, prioritise the welfare of our people, and deliver impactful governance.”
Governors present at the meeting included those from Lagos, Kano, Ondo, Kaduna, Borno, Ebonyi, Kogi, Sokoto, Yobe, Jigawa and Benue states, among others, while Nasarawa State was represented by its deputy governor.
The Taraba State governor was also in attendance briefly before departing after a short engagement with the host.
The latest development comes amid heightened political manoeuvring within the ruling party as it prepares for its primaries and the 2027 electoral cycle.
