2027 Election: If You Bring A Thousand Naira Down, They’ll Bring A Thousand Dollars Down — Yesufu

Prominent activist and NDC member, Aisha Yesufu, has declared that the 2027 general election will be a fierce battle for the future of Nigeria, warning supporters not to underestimate the political struggle ahead.…....

Yesufu made the remarks during the National Obedient Movement Aspirants Summit held at Chelsea Hotel on Saturday, May 16, 2026. The event, which was aired by TV Platinum, brought together members and aspirants aligned with the movement ahead of the next general elections.

Speaking passionately to attendees, the activist argued that the election would not be determined by financial strength alone, alleging that powerful political actors currently control vast national resources. “2027 is going to be a war. It’s not a war that money can win,” she said.

According to her, certain individuals in power have access to enormous financial resources and are prepared to deploy them without fear of consequences. “Because I tell you there are some people who have hijacked the purse of the nation and they have opened it and they are ready to spend it no matter how they want to spend it because they fear no repercussion,” Yesufu stated.

She further claimed that Nigeria’s growing debt burden would have long-term consequences for future generations. “If you bring a thousand naira down, they’ll bring a thousand dollars down. They have borrowed, borrowed, borrowed, and borrowed again. They have borrowed the kind of money that the next hundred years probably our descendants will be paying those monies,” she said.

Despite concerns about financial influence in politics, Yesufu insisted that passion, credibility and strong leadership qualities would ultimately determine victory in 2027. “We cannot outspend them but we can out-passioned them,” she declared.

The activist urged political stakeholders to present candidates with “competence, character, capacity” and courage, stressing that Nigerians want leaders who have remained connected to the people over the years.

“How do you out-passioned those people who have taken over this country is by ensuring that the candidates that you filled are the candidates with competence, character, capacity, candidates that are courageous, candidates that are passionate, candidates that will stand for Nigeria,” she said.

Yesufu also warned supporters not to treat the coming election cycle lightly. “The 2027 election is going to be a war and I didn’t miss my words when I said that. There was no water in my mouth when I said that,” she added.

According to her, Nigerians are fighting for both the future of the country and their individual freedoms. “We all are going to be fighting for the soul of Nigeria and we all are going to be fighting for our lives and let nobody think as we go on to this journey that it’s going to be a walk in the park,” she said.

She encouraged citizens to reject fear and recognize their constitutional power within the democratic process. “We all are citizens. We are not slaves and the office of the citizen is the highest office in the land,” Yesufu stated.

The activist concluded by urging public office holders and political aspirants to remain loyal to the people, emphasizing that leadership positions are privileges granted by citizens. “You do not betray them. Loyalty to the citizens is very important,” she said.
