The vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Rabiu Kwankwaso, on Thursday paid a courtesy visit to former President Olusegun Obasanjo in Kano State.
Kwankwaso was accompanied by the NDC governorship candidate for Kano State, Aminu Gwarzo. This was disclosed in a statement released by Kwankwaso’s media aide, Saifullahi Hassan, on Friday.
According to the statement, Obasanjo, who is in Kano on an official assignment, received the duo at his temporary residence in the state.
“His Excellency, Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, PhD, FNSE, the Vice Presidential Candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, this night paid a courtesy visit to a statesman and former President of Nigeria, His Excellency Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR, at his temporary residence in Kano,” the statement read.
The statement said the meeting featured “warm exchanges” between the political leaders but did not provide details of the discussions. Kwankwaso made a post about the visit on X, saying, “Last night, I paid a courtesy visit to our esteemed leader, His Excellency Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, at his accommodation in Kano.
“I was accompanied by the former Deputy Governor and our gubernatorial candidate, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo.”
Obasanjo and Kwankwaso also met at the turbaning ceremony of Abubakar Balarabe Mahmoud as Garkuwan Kano at the Palace of the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II. Kwankwaso wrote on X, “I had the honour of attending the turbaning ceremony of Abubakar Balarabe Mahmoud, OON, SAN, as Garkuwan Kano earlier today.
“The colourful and dignified event, held at the Emir’s Palace in Kano, also witnessed the conferment of the traditional title of Sarkin Fulanin Ja’idnawan Kano on Air Marshal Muhammad Dikko Umar (Rtd) by His Highness Muhammadu Sanusi II, PhD, CON, the Emir of Kano.
“The ceremony was graced by His Excellency, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR, alongside a distinguished gathering of personalities from across the country.”
