Senator Ekong Sampson, the incumbent senator representing Akwa Ibom South Senatorial District in the Red Chamber, has clinched the All Progressives Congress nomination for the senatorial district.
The senator was returned unopposed as the APC candidate for Akwa Ibom South Senatorial District in the forthcoming 2027 general elections.
Speaking with journalists in Uyo on Tuesday, Sampson reaffirmed his commitment to deepening his legislative engagement with his constituents in Akwa Ibom South.
“Let me appreciate the Akwa Ibom South Senatorial District for the peaceful APC primaries held yesterday (Monday). I promise that when I return as a ranking senator, I will continue to deepen legislative engagement with my constituents in Akwa Ibom South,” he said.
The lawmaker used the opportunity to thank the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, and Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, for their leadership in ensuring peaceful governance consolidation in the state.
He said, “I also want to use this opportunity to thank the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, and our governor, Umo Eno, for their leadership direction in the state.”
He also thanked his constituents for the confidence they have reposed in him.
Sampson joined public service as a councillor in the early 2000s.
He has also served as Head of Council, Mkpat Enin; a member of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly; and commissioner in a number of ministries in the state.
