Alex Ekubo: Omoni Oboli Shares Chats With Actor

Popular Nollywood producer and actress, Omoni Oboli, has revealed how she made efforts to emotionally support late actor Alex Ekubo before his death.

Sharing screenshots of conversations she had with the actor in October 2025, Oboli disclosed that he repeatedly shut her out, often telling her that he was “not around.”

Ekubo died on May 11, 2026, at the age of 40 at Evercare Hospital in Lagos after a brief battle with advanced metastatic kidney cancer.

Before his death, the actor had remained largely inactive on social media, with his last post dating back to late 2024.

In a statement released on his Instagram page, the family confirmed that the actor died after what they described as a courageous battle with kidney cancer.

“From the Family of Alexx Ikenna Ekubo-Okwaraeke. It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, son, brother, and friend, Alexx Ikenna Ekubo-Okwaraeke,” the statement read.

“After a brief but courageous battle, Alexx passed away at Evercare Hospital due to complications arising from advanced metastatic kidney cancer.

“Throughout this difficult journey, he bore his pain with remarkable strength, unwavering faith, and enduring hope, believing that one day his testimony would be shared with the world.”

The family also requested privacy and prayers during what it described as a deeply painful period, adding that funeral arrangements would be announced later.

“We sincerely thank everyone for the love, support, prayers, and understanding extended to the family throughout this period,” the statement added.

The actor, enjoyed widespread fame in Nollywood for his performances in several hit movies, including Weekend Getaway, which is widely regarded as one of his breakthrough roles.
