The Chairman of Alimosho Local Government, Akinpelu Ibrahim Johnson, has called on residents and critical stakeholders across the council area to embrace the Ilera Eko and Ilera Ibile health insurance schemes as part of efforts to improve access to affordable and quality healthcare at the grassroots.
Speaking during a stakeholders’ engagement programme on the health initiatives, the council Chairman described healthcare as a fundamental right that should be accessible to all residents regardless of social or economic status.
Hon. Akinpelu, who was represented at the event by the Vice Chairman, Honourable Francis Adebisi, noted that the Ilera Eko and Ilera Ibile schemes represent a major step by the Lagos State Government towards achieving universal health coverage, particularly for people at the grassroots level.
According to him, a healthy population remains the bedrock of productivity, prosperity, and sustainable community development, stressing that local governments have a responsibility to support initiatives that improve the wellbeing of residents.
He therefore urged traditional rulers, community development associations, market leaders, youth groups, and other stakeholders to become ambassadors of the programme by spreading awareness across wards, streets, and households within the local government.
The Alimoso LG Chairman also assured residents of the commitment of Alimosho Local Government to continue collaborating with relevant agencies to strengthen primary healthcare delivery and support sensitisation campaigns aimed at increasing enrolment in the schemes.
“Together, let us build a healthier Alimosho, because when our people are healthy, our communities thrive,” he stated.
The engagement programme brought together representatives of the Lagos State Health Management Agency, health professionals, community leaders, and residents, all of whom reiterated the importance of inclusive healthcare coverage for the people of Alimosho.
