Alleged APGA Primary Crisis: Anambra Deputy Governor Accused of Hijacking Election Materials

Allegations of irregularities have trailed the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) House of Assembly primaries in parts of Anambra State, with the Deputy Governor accused of disrupting the electoral process and allegedly making away with election materials.

According to reports from Obizi on Saturday, tension erupted during the primaries after it became evident that the Deputy Governor’s preferred candidate from Nise was allegedly losing the contest for the House of Assembly ticket. Witnesses claimed the Deputy Governor arrived at the venue with security operatives and disrupted the exercise.

Further allegations emerged from Nibo and Mbaukwu, where the Deputy Governor was accused of taking away result sheets while allegedly insisting he was acting on Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s directive to “deliver” a particular candidate from Nise.

The development has sparked outrage among party members and political stakeholders, many of whom questioned how an administration widely praised for promoting merit and internal democracy could be linked to claims of electoral interference.

Available results from the exercise reportedly showed that Nwanayoeze Isiagu, Hon. Chigbogu Chukwuebuka Nweke, won the primaries before the controversy erupted.

Electoral officers are also said to have submitted reports indicating that no valid election took place in Nise and Mbaukwu due to the disruption and alleged interference.

Party faithful have now called on APGA leadership to immediately intervene and halt any attempt to use the disputed result sheets allegedly taken from Nibo and Mbaukwu.

They urged Governor Chukwuma Soludo and APGA National Chairman, Barrister Sly Ezeokenwa, to cancel all disputed results from the affected areas in order to protect the credibility of the party’s primary election process.

The controversy has continued to generate reactions across Anambra State, with observers warning that failure to address the allegations could undermine public confidence in the democratic process and dent the reputation of the Soludo administration, which has often been commended for creating opportunities for young people and promoting leadership based on competence rather than political godfatherism.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the Deputy Governor nor the APGA leadership had officially responded to the allegations.
