Trump said the pause would last for “a short period” to assess whether a “complete and final agreement with the representatives of Iran” can be reached.
Responding to Washington’s approach, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian criticised the US stance, stating it is pursuing “a policy of maximum pressure” and “expects Iran to submit to their unilateral demands”, which is “impossible” for Tehran.
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has reported a second consecutive day of missile and drone strikes allegedly originating from Iran. However, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has denied any involvement in the attacks, Al Jazeera reported.
Iran has accused US forces of killing five civilians during an operation in the Strait of Hormuz, claiming the vessels targeted were passenger boats rather than IRGC-operated fast boats.
Meanwhile, Israel has sustained its military operations in southern Lebanon, issuing fresh evacuation warnings to residents ahead of planned strikes.
