Allegri set to replace Conte as Napoli new coach

Massimiliano Allegri has reached a full verbal agreement to become Napoli’s new head coach following the departure of Antonio Conte.

Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the agreement on Thursday, saying the former AC Milan manager had accepted all conditions offered by the Serie A club.

Romano posted: “Massimiliano Allegri as new Napoli head coach, here we go!”

He added: “Former AC Milan manager accepts all the conditions offered by Napoli and he will sign in shortly. Deal done.”

The agreement will keep Allegri at Napoli until June 2028 under a two-year contract.

Napoli moved for the veteran manager after Conte left the club following disagreements with club president Aurelio De Laurentiis.

The club’s legal and administrative teams are now preparing the official paperwork, while the formal announcement is expected after Allegri finalises the termination details of his previous contract.

The appointment comes after a turbulent period in Serie A managerial circles.

Allegri was recently dismissed by AC Milan after the club’s late-season collapse saw them finish fifth and miss out on Champions League qualification.

Napoli reacted quickly to secure the Italian coach ahead of other reported candidates, including Vincenzo Italiano.

Allegri now takes charge of a Napoli side preparing for next season’s Champions League campaign after a stronger league finish than the previous season.
