Ngal Ayel Mukau, a midfielder for the Democratic Republic of the Congo, said that their 2026 World Cup opener lacked a tactical strategy to stop Cristiano Ronaldo.
On Wednesday, the Leopards held Portugal to a 1-1 draw as Joao Neves’ goal was neutralized by Yohan Wissa’s header.
After the game, Mukau acknowledged to TNT Sports that while Ronaldo is still among the best players, he has changed.
“A special plan to contain Cristiano Ronaldo?” he declared. Not really, to be honest.
We are aware that he has changed. He is now a little older. He is still among the best, though, and I have a lot of respect for him.
Mukau’s remarks coincide with demands from supporters and commentators that Ronaldo receive less playing time for the national team.
