APC gives Fubara fresh appointment days after withdrawing from governorship primary

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has named Rivers State Governor, Sim Fubara, and other serving and former governors as coordinators and collation officers for different states in its presidential primary election.…....

The party has also adopted a direct primary mode that would allow all registered party members to participate in the exercise nationwide.

According to a document issued by its National Secretariat in Abuja, the APC said the direct primary would hold across all the 8,809 wards in the country on May 24, 2026.

Other APC governors were also named as coordinators for their respective states.

“The organisation and conduct of the direct primary in each of the 36 states and the FCT shall be the responsibility of the State Coordinator and Collation Officer, who shall also collate the results of all the local governments in the state and present the same to the Presidential Primary Election Committee in Abuja, FCT on 24 May, 2026.

“The provisions of the ‘Procedure for the Conduct of Direct and Consensus Mode of Primaries’ earlier issued and forwarded to the Independent National Electoral Committee under the cover of a letter dated 15 May 2026 with reference No: APC/NHDQ/INEC/PRYS-DOCS/01-05/26 shall also apply mutatis mutandis,” the document signed by APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, partly read.

Fubara has been having a long battle with his estranged political benefactor and the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), leading to the declaration of a state of emergency by President Tinubu and the threat of his impeachment.

However, Tinubu later brokered a peace talk between the duo, leading to the stabilisation of the state.
Do you think Fubara should accept the appointment or just ignore it and retire from politics?
