The All Progressives Congress (APC) has lost two senators from Bauchi State: Shehu Buba Umar and Sama’ila Dahuwa, to the People’s Redemption Party (PRP) after its governorship primaries.
The senators left the APC over its choice of former Governor Mohammed Abubakar as the governorship candidate in the state.
Senator Buba, who planned to contest the APC governorship primaries, but pulled out 24 hours before the scheduled date, cited lack of internal democracy and manipulation of the governorship primary process as his reason for exiting the party.
He was immediately announced on Monday as the PRP consensus governorship candidate for the 2027 elections in Bauchi State.
Dahuwa, who joined the APC some months ago after resigning from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), dumped the party because it became obvious he was going to be denied a return ticket to the Senate.
He was also announced on Monday as the PRP consensus candidate for Bauchi North Senatorial District for the 2027 elections.
