The David Umahi Federal University Teaching Hospital (DUFUTH), Uburu, Ebonyi State is hosting the 114th quarterly meeting of Chief Medical Directors (CMDs) and Medical Directors (MDs) of Nigeria’s tertiary hospitals.
Healthcare chiefs from across Nigeria converged for the three-day forum to tackle challenges and improve service delivery.
Committee Chairman, Prof. Sa’ad Ahmed, led the delegation to the Uburu Ezes-in-Council at the palace of HRH, Eze Laz Umahi.
Ahmed said the meeting coincided with the end of pioneer CMD Prof. Uzoma Maryrose Agwu’s four-year tenure, which he hailed for “impactful leadership and medical excellence”.
Speaking for Uburu’s four communities, Eze Godwin Akpandu said hosting the meeting confirmed the town’s growing relevance in healthcare.
Akpandu said: “Uburu gave you more than land.
“Uburu gave you trust.
“What you call a hospital, we call our child.”
The monarch credited Prof. Agwu with over 412 complex surgeries, new kidney and plastic surgery units, and stronger hospital-community ties.
The royal fathers pledged continued peace and urged the Federal Government to fund more manpower, complete projects, and expand DUFUTH’s programmes.
They expressed optimism the hospital will rank among West Africa’s best.
Prof. Agwu thanked the Committee for its collaboration, saying shared expertise enabled her team’s results.
Day one of the meeting featured presentations, interactive sessions, and exhibitions by health firms seeking partnerships with federal hospitals.
