However, the development has been strongly rejected .... by supporters of the immediate past Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, who described the endorsement as unauthorised and inconsistent with the party’s established procedures.
Speaking on the controversy, an APC executive .... member who asked not to be named dismissed the claim of a consensus arrangement, insisting that no official approval had been given by the party leadership.
He stated that the process did not involve the recognised state executive committee, adding that proper party structures must be respected in any decision regarding candidates.
He further stressed, “Asiwaju and the APC have not said anything about consensus candidates.”
The supporter of Adelabu, Tade Akinjobi, also warned that bypassing due process could deepen divisions within the party, arguing that multiple aspirants had already shown interest by obtaining nomination forms.
Other party figures, including Kola Amoo, urged restraint, noting that while individuals and groups are free to express preferences, only the official party structure can determine the authentic candidate selection process.
Meanwhile, Sharafadeen Alli, who received the endorsement, expressed appreciation to party leaders and pledged to run an inclusive administration if eventually elected, while also acknowledging the role of President Bola Tinubu in guiding the party’s direction.…READ / MORE…
