Bauchi state governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, is reportedly making plans to leave troubled Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and align with a new political platform in a move that could reshape the state’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The development followed a high level meeting held in Bauchi on Saturday involving the governor, key political allies and party stakeholders, where discussions were said to have centred on the future of his political structure.
Emerging reports indicate that the governor and members of his camp have resolved to move into the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), ending weeks of speculation over his next political destination.
The latest decision comes after months of rumours linking Mohammed with possible moves to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and other opposition platforms.
Sources close to the meeting said the governor’s supporters believe the new platform offers a stronger political base and greater control ahead of the next election cycle.
Although an official statement was still being awaited as of press time, party loyalists were seen celebrating the reported development in parts of Bauchi metropolis.
Political observers say the governor’s reported exit from PDP could trigger fresh defections within the state and alter existing alliances in the North East.
Mohammed, a former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, remains one of the most influential political figures in Bauchi and the wider northern region.
His reported defection is expected to generate reactions from both the PDP leadership and rival parties in the coming days.
