FC Barcelona have officially extended the contract of Hansi Flick until June 2028 following the German manager’s successful spell at the club.
The agreement was finalised on Monday at the club’s executive offices, where Flick met with Barcelona vice-president Rafa Yuste and sporting director Deco to complete the deal.
The former FC Bayern Munich coach still had a contract running until 2027, but both parties agreed to strengthen their long-term commitment after a sustained period of success.
The new agreement also includes an option for an additional season that could keep Flick at the club until 2029.
Since replacing Xavi Hernández, Flick has overseen a major turnaround at Barcelona, guiding the club to five trophies in two years.
His achievements include two La Liga titles, two Spanish Super Cups and one Copa del Rey as Barcelona re-established themselves ahead of rivals Real Madrid CF in Spanish football.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta and the club hierarchy are also understood to be pleased with Flick’s ability to maintain the club’s attacking identity while continuing to deliver results.
The German manager reportedly delayed finalising the agreement until Barcelona mathematically secured their latest league title in order to remain focused on sporting objectives.
Beyond the trophies, Flick has also received praise for promoting young talents from Barcelona’s famous La Masia academy.
The manager has handed first-team debuts to 13 academy players, reinforcing the club’s long-standing tradition of developing homegrown talent.
Barcelona believe Flick’s balance of tactical discipline, youth development and attacking football has helped preserve the club’s identity while building a new generation of players for the future.
