Edo Lawmaker Rejects APC Primary Outcome in Edo Constituency

A member of the House of Representatives, Marcus Onobun, has challenged the outcome of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for the Esan Central/Esan West/Igueben Federal Constituency in Edo State, insisting that he won the exercise conducted through direct primaries.

Onobun lodged his protest in a petition submitted on Sunday to the APC Primary Election Petitions Committee, alleging that the officially declared result did not reflect the actual votes recorded across the constituency’s wards.

According to him, results collated from the 30 wards showed that he secured the majority of votes cast by registered party members during the primary election.

Despite his claim, the committee announced Lucky Esiegbe as the winner of the APC primary.

Onobun maintained that the party had approved the direct primary method, allowing members across all wards in the constituency to participate in electing the party’s candidate.

He also accused officials involved in the collation and announcement of the results of failing to follow due process in several wards.

The lawmaker urged the APC Primary Election Petitions Committee to thoroughly review the ward-by-ward results alongside reports from election officials, party agents, and other documentary evidence.

He further demanded that he be declared the authentic winner of the APC House of Representatives primary for the constituency, insisting that he obtained the highest number of lawful votes cast during the exercise.
