The Bauchi State Government has completed vocational skills training for no fewer than 570 students drawn from conventional schools across the state as part of efforts to promote self-reliance and reduce youth unemployment.

The students graduated from the programme during a ceremony held at the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Centre in Bauchi, where they were trained in different practical and entrepreneurial skills.

The beneficiaries received training in welding and fabrication, garment production, tailoring, furniture making, shoe and bag making, beads making, and satellite installation among other trades aimed at preparing them for life after formal education.

Speaking during the graduation ceremony, the Commissioner for Education, Abdulkadir Ibrahim, said the initiative was introduced to ensure that students are equipped with practical skills in addition to classroom learning.

According to him, the state government is committed to building a system where students can become productive and self-dependent after completing their education.

“We are not only impacting knowledge but also skills that students can rely on after school,” the commissioner said.

He explained that the ministry would continue to monitor the progress of the beneficiaries to ensure that the skills acquired during the programme are properly utilised.

Ibrahim further disclosed that the government plans to support the trained students with machines and equipment to help them establish themselves in their chosen vocations and strengthen their capacity for entrepreneurship.

The commissioner also commended Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, for supporting the programme and prioritising the development of education and vocational training in the state.

He noted that the government remains committed to expanding technical and vocational education as part of broader efforts to tackle unemployment, reduce youth dependency, and create more economic opportunities for young people in Bauchi State.

The vocational training programme is part of ongoing efforts by the Bauchi State Government to encourage skills acquisition among students and promote entrepreneurship at an early stage.

Jalaludeen Usman, ANIPR, who serves as Public Relations Officer (PRO), also highlighted the importance of the programme in preparing students for future economic opportunities beyond conventional white-collar jobs.
