The Commissioner of Police in Borno State, CP Naziru Abdulmajid, has warned police officers in the state against torture, excessive force, and human rights abuses in the line of duty.

The warning was contained in a statement issued by the Borno State Police Command on Monday, signed by ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, Police Public Relations Officer.

According to the statement, the warning followed a briefing held at the command headquarters in Maiduguri.

The commissioner issued the warning during a lecture attended by tactical commanders, heads of departments, and divisional police officers.

CP Abdulmajid stressed that professionalism and respect for human rights must guide all police operations across the state.

“Addressing senior officers, the CP strongly warned against all forms of torture, excessive use of force, and abuse of fundamental human rights, stressing that such acts are unlawful, unprofessional, and will not be tolerated under any circumstances,” the statement said.

He explained that such conduct violates police standards, the rule of law, and the Police Act and Regulations, adding that it also damages public trust in the force.

The commissioner directed that all operations must follow existing rules, especially Force Order 237 on the use of force, urging officers to always show restraint and respect for human dignity.

He also warned that any officer found guilty of misconduct or rights violations would face strict disciplinary action.

“Any erring officer found culpable of rights violations or unprofessional conduct will be dealt with decisively in accordance with the law and internal disciplinary procedures,” he said.

CP Abdulmajid further encouraged members of the public to report cases of misconduct through official complaint channels, including the Police Complaint Response Unit (CRU), assuring that all complaints would be treated seriously and confidentially.

The command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property while maintaining professionalism and accountability in policing duties across Borno State.
