BREAKING: Desmond Elliot officially withdraws from APC Lagos House of Assembly primaries

The member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Desmond Elliot, has officially withdrawn from the Lagos House Assembly APC primaries for Surulere 1.…....

Desmond, who arrived at the Paddington Mini Stadium with his entourage, alleged that many of his supporters were denied access to the polling venue.

The lawmaker told newsmen that he repeatedly appealed to the electoral officers to allow his supporters into the polling area, but his pleas were ignored.

NewsRegion had earlier reported that Desmond publicly apologised to the Chief of Staff to President Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, saying he may have offended him in the course of his political engagements.

Elliot made the apology during an appearance on TVC’s Your View on Friday, where he said any misunderstanding was unintentional and insisted he remained committed to party unity and development in his constituency.

The Nollywood actor’s apology comes a few hours after Gbajabiamila revealed that Tinubu almost sacked him because of Elliot’s alleged links to the crisis that rocked the Lagos State House of Assembly that saw the impeachment and reinstatement of Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa.

Gbajabiamila had said President Bola Tinubu confronted him over intelligence reports suggesting Elliot’s involvement in moves around the Assembly speakership tussle, a claim he denied at the time.

On Wednesday, his supporters staged a peaceful protest and gradually left the venue alongside the lawmaker.

Desmond said he decided to leave the venue to prevent any breakdown of law and order, stressing that he would not allow any life to be lost because of the election.

The election, however, was not held as tensions rose at the venue over the alleged exclusion of some party members.

Speaking in the video, he decried the level of intimidation he and his supporters faced during the primaries.

The actor-turned politician said, “I want to officially announce my withdrawal from this particular race, good luck, thank you, and God bless you.”
