BREAKING: Senate Approves N2.285tn 2026 FCT Budget, Commends Wike’s Infrastructure Drive

The Nigerian Senate on Thursday approved the N2.285 trillion 2026 budget proposal for the Federal Capital Territory Administration, following the consideration and adoption of the report presented by its Committee on FCT.

Presenting the report, the committee’s Vice Chairman, Austin Akobundu, disclosed that N1.741 trillion, representing 76 percent of the total budget estimate, was allocated for capital expenditure, while N165.7 billion was earmarked for personnel costs and N378.231 billion for overhead expenditure.

According to Akobundu, the combined personnel and overhead allocation of N544.6 billion accounts for about 23 percent of the total budget size, while the proposal is largely focused on infrastructure development and the provision of critical utilities and public facilities across the six Area Councils of the FCT.

The lawmakers, during debate on the report, praised the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, for what they described as visible infrastructural transformation in Abuja, urging that the budget be given speedy approval to sustain ongoing projects.

Contributing during plenary, the Deputy President of the Senate, Barau I. Jibrin, commended the minister for implementing what he described as “budgets of impact and development.”
“The FCT Minister is doing wonderful work in the territory through implementation of budgets of impact, budgets of development on yearly basis,” Barau said.
