CBN Throws Shade at Money Bouquets Just Before Valentine’s Day

Lovebirds, beware! The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has officially called out money bouquets as illegal “naira abuse” – right in time for Valentine’s Day. 😳

For the uninitiated, a money bouquet is when cash is folded like flower petals and arranged into a bouquet for gifting. While it may look romantic, CBN says it counts as tampering with the naira – alongside spraying, squeezing, selling, or defacing notes.

The apex bank warned via Twitter: “It is your civic duty to protect the naira. Report naira abuse today.” Offenders could face at least six months in jail or a ₦50,000 fine.

With Valentine’s just around the corner, Nigerians are now rethinking gifting their crush a bouquet of naira instead of roses.

Will love survive the CBN crackdown? Social media is already buzzing!
