Veteran Nollywood actor Chiwetalu Agu has added another reason to celebrate after receiving a brand-new car gift just months after marking his 70th birthday.
The award-winning actor, known for his comic roles and distinctive use of Igbo expressions in films, was gifted the vehicle by the Chief Executive Officer of Pineleaf Estate, Bishop Nzekwesili.
The gesture has since attracted reactions from fans and colleagues across the entertainment industry, many of whom described it as a well-deserved honour for his decades of contribution to Nollywood.
Chiwetalu Agu shared a video on social media showing himself alongside his wife and the newly gifted car. In the video, he expressed deep appreciation to the businessman and also called on fans and well-wishers to offer prayers for his benefactor.
“An appreciation message to the CEO of Pineleaf Estate, Bishop Nzekwesili, for gifting me a brand-new car. Please say a word of prayer for him,” he said.
The latest gift comes only a few months after the actor celebrated his milestone 70th birthday in March, an event that drew widespread tributes from fans, colleagues, and industry stakeholders. Many described him as one of the most influential comic actors in the history of Nigerian cinema.
Over the years, Chiwetalu Agu has built a strong reputation for his unique acting style, particularly his humorous delivery and culturally rich expressions.
He has featured in numerous Nollywood classics such as Issakaba and Living in Bondage, films that helped shape the modern Nigerian movie industry.
Beyond his film career, the actor has remained active in public discussions, recently addressing rumours about his death. In a viral video, he dismissed the speculation and reassured fans that he remains alive and in good health, adding that he intends to continue enjoying life as long as God permits.
His journey has not been without challenges. In recent years, he has had moments of health concern, including a period when he was seen receiving medical attention in a hospital video shared online.
At the time, he expressed gratitude to those who supported him spiritually and medically, including religious figures who stood by him during recovery.
Born in Enugu State, Chiwetalu Agu began his acting career in the 1980s and has since become one of the most recognisable faces in Nollywood.
His contributions earned him the Best Actor in an Indigenous Movie award at the 2012 Nollywood Movie Awards, further cementing his legacy in the industry.
The recent car gift adds to a growing list of recognitions he has received in his later years, reflecting the continued respect he commands in the entertainment world.
Many fans see the gesture as a celebration of not just his fame, but also his longevity and influence in shaping indigenous Nigerian storytelling.
