Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Davido has shared an interesting story about how his desire to become a music star first began, taking fans back to a memorable night in Lagos that completely changed his mindset.
The award-winning singer made the revelation during a recent podcast interview where he spoke openly about his early days before fame, wealth and international recognition. According to Davido, there was a particular experience that made him realise just how powerful music and celebrity influence could be.
Recounting the moment, the singer explained that he was in Nigeria during the Christmas season and decided to spend the night at the popular Club Rehab in Lagos. Unknown to him at the time, that outing would become one of the most important memories connected to his future career.
Davido recalled that the atmosphere inside the club instantly transformed when some of Nigeria’s biggest music stars arrived at the venue. Legendary duo P-Square walked in alongside fellow hitmakers Wizkid and Wande Coal, attracting massive attention from people at the club.
According to him, the reaction from female fans particularly caught his attention. He said the excitement, screaming and admiration directed at the artistes left a lasting impression on him and immediately sparked a desire to experience that same level of fame and influence.
“I remember I was in Nigeria for Christmas and I went to the club. When P Square, Wizkid and Wande Coal walked in, all the girls went crazy for them. That’s how I made up my mind to do music. I wanted it,” Davido said during the interview.
The singer’s confession quickly became a trending topic online after clips from the interview surfaced on social media platforms. Fans reacted with amusement and excitement, with many saying they appreciated the honesty behind his story.
Some social media users jokingly suggested that admiration from women became the real motivation behind Davido’s decision to pursue entertainment, while others argued that ambition alone would not have been enough without the hard work and consistency he later invested in his craft.
Many fans also reflected on the era Davido described, remembering a period when Nigerian music stars controlled nightlife scenes and dominated conversations across clubs and entertainment spaces nationwide. For several people, artistes like P-Square, Wizkid and Wande Coal represented success, influence and youthful energy at the time.
Over the years, Davido has grown into one of the most recognised African artistes globally. From releasing chart-topping songs to selling out international venues and collaborating with global music stars, the singer has successfully built a career that stretches far beyond Nigeria.
His latest revelation has now given fans another glimpse into the experiences that shaped his journey long before he became one of Afrobeats’ biggest names.
