The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi State, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, alongside party aspirants, has expressed strong confidence in the party’s prospects for victory in the 2027 general elections, citing unity, grassroots support, and a consensus-driven strategy as key advantages.
Speaking in Abakaliki after several aspirants obtained their expression of interest and nomination forms, Emegha dismissed concerns over internal disagreements, insisting that the party remains cohesive and focused on securing wins across all constituencies.
He attributed recent tensions within the party to “overzealousness” by a few individuals, stressing that such developments do not reflect the true position of the APC leadership in the state.
“Sometimes, overzealousness can push individuals beyond their limits, but this does not in any way undermine the unity of our party. We remain one family, and our decisions are taken in the overall interest of the people,” Emegha said.
The state APC chairman emphasised that the adoption of consensus candidates followed extensive consultations with stakeholders at the ward, local government, and state levels, describing the process as inclusive and democratic.
According to him, the party leadership, under Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, ensured that all interests were accommodated before arriving at a common position aimed at strengthening internal cohesion and enhancing electoral success.
Emegha maintained that all candidates flying the APC flag in Ebonyi would enjoy collective support, noting that electoral contests in the state are a shared responsibility among party members.
“No candidate stands alone. Every ticket belongs to all of us. We will work collectively to secure victory, as success in our constituencies reflects our strength and connection with the people,” he added.
He further expressed optimism that the APC’s governance record, coupled with its commitment to peace and development, would resonate with voters and give the party a competitive edge in the forthcoming elections.
Also speaking, some aspirants who aligned with the party’s consensus arrangement reaffirmed their commitment to the decision, describing it as strategic approach to minimise rancour and deepen unity within the party.
One of the aspirants, Senator Peter Onyekachi Nwebonyi, representing Ebonyi North Senatorial District and Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate, said the consensus model is consistent with the Electoral Act and reflects the collective will of party members.
He noted that consensus candidacy, when widely accepted, remains a legitimate democratic option that conserves time and resources while fostering cohesion.
Nwebonyi highlighted his legislative and constituency achievements, including road construction, educational infrastructure, empowerment programmes, and the facilitation of federal appointments.
He assured constituents of sustained quality representation if re-elected.
He also urged party members, particularly the youth, to embrace purposeful leadership and selfless service, emphasising that public office should be driven by the collective good rather than personal gain.
Other aspirants, including Senator Anthony Ani seeking re-election as a member representing Ebonyi South Senatorial District, and members of the House of Representatives for Ikwo/Ezza South and Ezza North/Ishielu Federal Constituencies, Chinedu Ogah and Joseph Nwobashi, among others, called on party faithful to remain united and committed as preparations intensify for the 2027 elections.
They expressed confidence that the APC would emerge victorious at the polls.
