A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, has picked his expression of interest and nomination forms to run for Zamfara North Senatorial seat in the 2027 general election.
The forms were picked in Abuja, where the party sells them to aspirants desiring to contest various elective positions.
The Special Adviser on Legal matters to Dr Shinkafi, Barr. Yazid Salihu Aliyu, in a press statement on Saturday explained that Shinkafi who had contested for governor in the state bowed to pressure by the people of Zamfara North Senatorial District to run for senate for bold and progressive representation.
He said since the return of democracy in 1999, the good people of Zamfara North Senatorial District have lacked lack effective, efficient and purposeful representation in the senate which denied them desired dividends of democracy.
He said more importantly, the senate position has stayed in one area of the senatorial district depriving other local government areas in the zone the opportunity to produce a senator as obtainable in other senatorial districts.
He said the indigenes of Zamfara North demand that the senatorial seat be zoned to Shinkafi Local Government in the interest of justice, fair play, equity and inclusivity.
According to him, this will foster unity, peace, progress and advancement of Zamfara North that has been marginalised for long by previous administrations in the state.
Shinkafi accepted to run for senate to contribute in making laws for good governance and attract Federal and State projects to the constituency that will assuage the pains of years of armed banditry, displacement of indigenes from their ancestral homes, cattle rustling, kidnapping for ransom etc.
“Sani Shinkafi who served as Patron, Tinubu – Shettima Presidential Campaign Council 2023, former National Secretary, All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Secretary, APGA Board of Trustees (BOT), Deputy Chairman, Matawalle Governorship Campaign Council 2023, Zamfara state.
“He is currently the Executive Secretary, Patriots for the Advancement of Peace and Social Development, will bring on board his wealth of experience in national and state politics to transform his senatorial zone in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He said Zamfara state is an APC stronghold and expressed confidence that the party will win all the elective positions in the state and deliver President Tinubu in 2027 as it did in the 2023 presidential election.
“A grassroots politician and astute administrator, Shinkafi’s decision to run for senate is a welcome development in Zamfara North Senatorial District he has served in various positions.
“He has been the voice of the voiceless and marginalised people in the state and deserves a seat in the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for inclusive governance,” he said.
