The Ebonyi State Ministry of Education has suspended two head teachers indefinitely over alleged gross misconduct, denial of the right to quality education, and sabotage of the state government’s efforts in education.
The suspension letter issued on May 18, 2026, was signed by the Education Secretary of Ezza-North Local Government Area, Francis Nwonunku, directing the two suspended head teachers to submit all government property in their possession to the next-in-rank with immediate effect.
“You are hereby suspended indefinitely as the head teacher of the above school due to your gross misconduct for denying the school pupils their right to quality education and also sabotaging the effort of our education-loving governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Nwifuru.
“You are to hand over all the school properties under your possession to the next in rank with immediate effect and submit the copy of the handover note to the office of the Education Secretary,” the letter read.
It was learnt that the head teachers were suspended days after a viral video exposed the deplorable conditions under which pupils were receiving lessons.
It was also learnt that the suspended teachers were accused of being behind the footage.
The video sparked reactions online, highlighting the condition of schoolchildren learning in classrooms with unfinished block walls, inadequate learning facilities and poor infrastructure.
