An entrepreneur and philanthropist, Oluwakemi Tosin Folorunsho, has donated no fewer than 100 school bags and 100 school uniforms to pupils of Universal Basic Education Modern Nursery and Primary School, Olorombo, Abeokuta, Ogun State, as part of efforts to support underprivileged children and promote access to basic education.
Folorunsho, who is the promoter of God’s Love International Company, said the initiative was driven by her passion to give back to society and support children in need.
Speaking during the distribution exercise, she explained that the outreach, though not her first, marked her first large-scale public intervention.
“To God be the glory, I believe that out of what I have, I should give back to the needy. There are children out there who lack basic school items, and we are here to support them with what we can,” she said.
She added that beyond the school bags and uniforms, other items distributed included 200 pairs of socks, 200 exercise books, and mathematical sets to aid learning.
Folorunsho noted that her company, which primarily deals in drinks, had been in operation for 27 years, stressing that the gesture was part of plans to institutionalise a broader social intervention programme focused on children.
“This is not the first time I will be doing this, but it is the first major one where we are coming out publicly. I have a passion for children, and this will continue,” she said.
While declining to disclose the total cost of the project, she hinted at plans to execute additional projects within the school.
On the choice of timing, she said the outreach coincided with the company’s recent expansion marked by the opening of a new warehouse in Abeokuta.
“We believe that out of what God has given to us, we should also give to the children. That is why we are here today,” she added.
Folorunsho also advised the pupils to remain focused in their studies and life pursuits, noting that determination and perseverance were key to success.
“Whatever you do in life, be focused. It may take time, but with consistency, you will achieve your goals,” she counselled.
Reacting to the gesture, the immediate past head teacher of the school, Reverend Olufemi John Omitogun, described the intervention as historic and impactful.
“Today is a remarkable day for the pupils, staff, and the entire Olorombo community. This gesture has brought joy to everyone, and we pray that God will continue to bless the company,” he said.
Also speaking, the current head teacher, Mrs. Busari Olabisi Eunice, expressed appreciation to the donor, noting that the items would significantly ease the burden on parents and boost pupils’ morale.
“Parents are going through a lot, and this support has brought happiness to the learners. Today is a special day in the history of this school and community,” she said.
