Female driver flees after crushing three minor siblings to death

A female driver who was said to be undergoing driving lessons has fled after killing three minors from the same mother in Rivers State.

However, the State Police Command has vowed to undertake a thorough investigation into the accident that led to their death.

According to available information, the three children were crushed to death at the Ogbunuabali area of Port Harcourt metropolis.

The spokesperson of the police in the state and an Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP Blessing Agabe, has assured of a thorough investigation in a statement in Port Harcourt on Wednesday.

Agabe said that the command’s Commissioner, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, was deeply saddened by the incident, and had ordered a thorough investigation into the matter.

She said that the police boss had commiserated with the family of the deceased children, and assured that the driver, now at large, would be arrested and prosecuted.

The spokesman further said that the command remained committed to uncovering the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“All necessary steps are currently being taken to ensure that justice is served in accordance with the law,” she said.

Agabe urged members of the public to remain calm, avoid spreading unverified information, and cooperate with the police.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that a viral video on Friday showed Amara Esomonu, the mother of the three children, calling for justice over the loss of her children in the tragic accident.

An eyewitness who identified himself as Obua said that an unidentified man was teaching his female friend how to drive when their vehicle rammed into the Esomonu family house.

Obua said that the three children, aged 10, four and three, were killed in the crash, adding: “The car lost control, rammed into the woman’s house, and killed the three children on the spot.”
