Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has expressed pride after equalling the Premier League single-season assist record, while setting his sights on breaking it in the final match of the campaign against Brighton.
The midfielder registered his 20th assist of the season in United’s 3–2 win over Nottingham Forest, matching the record jointly held by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne.
Record-equalling season highlights Fernandes’ creative peak
Fernandes provided the decisive pass for Bryan Mbeumo, securing his place alongside two of the Premier League’s most prolific creators.
The Portuguese international, who was recently named FWA Footballer of the Year, admitted the milestone carried significant personal meaning given the calibre of players involved.

He also acknowledged that as the numbers climbed, the record became increasingly difficult to ignore, even if his approach on the pitch remained unchanged.
Final-day opportunity to set new benchmark
With one fixture remaining against Brighton, Fernandes has the chance to move to 21 assists and establish a new standalone Premier League record.
Despite the historic opportunity, the Manchester United skipper stressed that collective performance remains the priority, crediting his teammates for converting chances throughout the season.
United captain praises team contribution
Fernandes highlighted the importance of his teammates in achieving the milestone, noting that records of this magnitude depend heavily on finishing quality in the final third.
He reiterated that while personal achievement is satisfying, the ultimate objective remains team success as United conclude their season.
