Former CDS Gen. Luck Irabor Speaks On Becoming The Next Governor Of Delta State

The retired military chief was visibly unimpressed when asked about potential gubernatorial ambitions.…....

He cautioned the interviewer against adopting the civilian habit of making baseless political assumptions, reminding the public that his identity is permanently anchored in his military background.

Gen. Irabor pointed out the absurdity of discussing a run for the office when Delta State currently has an active, sitting governor. He made it clear that public assumptions should not be mistaken for personal intent.

“Why would I want to be governor of Delta State when there’s already a governor? No, not now. Plans. it mustn’t be now,” Irabor stated, dismissing the premise of the question.

When pushed further on whether a political career was on his radar for the future, Irabor cut off the speculation, calling out the interviewer for shifting from an objective journalistic stance to a speculative one.

“Stutter? No, no. Because you know you have joined them now in assuming so many things. So you’re no longer facing me as a soldier,” Irabor observed.

The retired four-star general emphasized that retirement from active service does not dissolve an officer’s core institutional identity.

He maintained that despite hanging up his uniform, he remains fundamentally a military man, completely detached from the world of partisan politics.

“I’m a soldier. I’m a soldier. I’m no longer in active service. Yes. But that does not remove the fact that I’m a soldier,” he concluded firmly.
