Former Deputy Senate President Omo-Agege Resigns From APC

Former Deputy President of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has officially resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), in a development that could reshape political alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a resignation letter reportedly dated May 22, 2026, and addressed to the APC Ward Chairman in Orogun Ward 2, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, the former Senate leader announced his decision to exit the ruling party after years of active participation in its structure and leadership.

Omo-Agege, a prominent figure in Delta State politics and former Deputy President of the 9th Senate, stated that his decision followed extensive consultations with political associates and supporters.

He cited concerns over recent developments within the APC in Delta State, arguing that the current structure no longer aligns with his political vision or his ability to effectively represent the interests of his constituency.

According to him, remaining within the party under the prevailing circumstances would limit his capacity to pursue meaningful political engagement for Delta Central and the broader Delta State electorate.

In a strongly worded statement attributed to him, Omo-Agege expressed frustration with his position within the party, saying:

I will not remain a sitting duck in a party where I cannot advance the interests of Delta Central, Delta State and Nigeria.

The remark underscores growing internal tensions that have reportedly shaped recent political developments within the APC in the South-South region.

Although Omo-Agege has not yet announced his next political platform, his resignation is already generating speculation about possible realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
