Speaking during an interview on Symfoni TV, Ohaegbu suggested that the ongoing political struggle in Rivers State is being driven by deep-rooted alliances and competing interests within the state’s power structure.…....
According to him, “Fubara always believes that he has a way he can sort it out within Wike’s own backyard.”
Ohaegbu made the statement while discussing the strained relationship between the governor and his predecessor, noting that the conflict has become one of the most significant political developments in Rivers State in recent times.
He explained that political actors in the state continue to rely heavily on loyalty networks, influence, and strategic calculations to maintain relevance and control. In his view, Fubara appears convinced that internal dialogue and engagement within the existing political framework could eventually ease tensions despite the fierce rivalry.
The former commissioner also warned that political calculations of that nature can produce mixed outcomes depending on how opposing camps react. He stressed that managing disagreements within dominant political blocs is often difficult in Nigeria’s political environment, particularly when powerful stakeholders pursue different interests.
Ohaegbu further linked the Rivers situation to broader political realignments taking shape ahead of the 2027 elections. He argued that defections, coalition talks, and internal party battles are increasingly influencing political strategies across the country as politicians reposition themselves for the next electoral cycle.
He added that leaders who fail to properly understand internal power dynamics may face deeper conflicts, while those who accurately read the political landscape could gain an advantage in the unfolding contest for influence and control.
