Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has announced that the ongoing reconstruction of the State Secretariat Complex in Port Harcourt will be completed and ready for use by the first quarter of 2027.
The Governor made the declaration on Monday, 25 May, 2026, after inspecting the extensive renovation works at the iconic government facility located in the Old GRA area of Port Harcourt.
Speaking after the inspection tour, Fubara said he returned to the site to personally assess the level of progress being made on the massive project, especially the internal structural work which is not immediately visible from the exterior.
“We just did a tour of the renovation of the Secretariat. I have been seeing the outer part of it wearing a new look, but I wanted to really confirm how much job is going on, most importantly, the inside and that is what I just went to inspect myself,” the governor stated.
Expressing satisfaction with the pace of work, Fubara said the project was on track for delivery within the timeline promised by his administration.
“I think that with the progress of work here, by the grace of God, I believe that by the first quarter of next year, it will be handed over to the government. Like I did promise, every job that we are handling, we will ensure that we put them to completion,” he added.
The Rivers State Secretariat Complex, originally built in the 1970s shortly after the creation of Rivers State in 1967, remains one of the most prominent government infrastructure assets in the state. The sprawling complex comprises several high-rise structures, including the 17-storey Point Block, the 10-storey Podium Block, and three additional seven-storey buildings known as Blocks A, B, and C.
The ongoing reconstruction project is aimed at transforming the aging complex into a modern administrative hub equipped with contemporary facilities and improved working conditions for civil servants.
According to the government, the upgrade includes major structural rehabilitation, redesign of office spaces, installation of modern systems and facilities, and comprehensive improvement of utilities to align with current administrative and technological standards.
The project is expected to significantly enhance operational efficiency within the state civil service while creating a more conducive and technology-driven work environment.
The reconstruction of the secretariat is one of several infrastructure projects being pursued by the Fubara administration as part of efforts to modernize public institutions and improve governance infrastructure across the state.
