The management of Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has dismissed reports alleging that the institution was shut down over bandit attacks, describing the claim as false and misleading.

In a statement published on the university’s official website, the institution said there was no security threat within the campus and that academic activities were continuing without disruption.

The statement, signed by the university’s Director of Public Affairs and Communication, Dr. Sunday Saanu, reacted to a post made on X by one FS Yusuf through the handle @FS_Yusuff, which claimed that students had been instructed to stay away from school due to repeated bandit attacks.

The viral post had alleged: “FUOYE is shutting down as students are told to stay home due to continuos bandits attack”.

Reacting, the university management urged students, parents and guardians to ignore the information, insisting that the report was fabricated.

Dr. Saanu described the claim as “baseless and fictitious,” adding that the university community remained safe.

“This is one of the antics of some lazy minds looking for traffic on social media in order to get money,” he said.

He further stated that no incident involving bandits had occurred within the institution.

“There has never been a bandits attack in FUOYE. We are safe in FUOYE. There is no cause for the alarm. It’s a pity that some people get insidious pleasure in spreading fake news, deriving joy in causing panic among the public,” the statement added.
