The Ghana Football Association (GFA) in collaboration with the University of Ghana has officially commenced the Coaching Licence “D” Course under the Department of Physical Education and Sport Studies at the College of Education.
The programme, which started on May 15, 2026, is aimed at developing more qualified grassroots coaches to improve football development across the country. The week-long course is taking place at the University of Ghana and is expected to end on May 22.
According to the GFA, the course forms part of its broader strategy to strengthen coaching education and build a stronger foundation for Ghana football. The initiative is being organised through the Ghana Football School, which has been working closely with educational institutions to train more coaches at the grassroots level.
A total of 40 participants from different backgrounds within Ghana’s football community are taking part in the training programme. The course is specially designed for students studying Physical Education and Sport Studies as well as aspiring coaches who want to build careers in football coaching.
Participants will go through both theoretical and practical sessions covering football methodology, player development, tactical understanding, and modern coaching techniques. They will also receive lessons on training organisation and grassroots football management.
At the end of the programme, participants will undergo practical assessments and written examinations before receiving their Licence D certificates.
The GFA believes improving coaching standards is key to the long-term growth of Ghana football. In recent months, the association has intensified efforts to provide coaching education through CAF Licence A, B, and D programmes across the country.
Officials say the latest collaboration with the University of Ghana will help equip young coaches with modern football knowledge and practical skills needed to nurture future football talents in Ghana.
