Ambassador Blessing Fubara Senior, the elder brother of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, has officially declared his intention to contest for the governorship of Rivers State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Blessing Fubara made the declaration under the platform of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), promising to serve only a single four-year term if elected governor.
Speaking during his declaration, the governorship aspirant described himself as a capable and experienced leader who is ready to restore political stability, economic growth, and peace in Rivers State.
According to him, Rivers State has witnessed prolonged political tension and economic setbacks in recent times, stressing that the state deserves purposeful leadership that will unite the people and rebuild public trust in governance.
“I am ready to serve Rivers people with sincerity and dedication. My mission is to restore peace, stability, and progress to our dear state,” he reportedly stated.
Blessing Fubara also pledged to respect the state’s zoning arrangement by serving only one term in office if elected. He said the decision was aimed at promoting fairness, equity, and political balance across the state.
The declaration has already sparked reactions across Rivers political circles, especially amid the ongoing political realignments and tensions within the state.
His announcement comes shortly after Governor Siminalayi Fubara distanced himself from recent governorship primary activities, a development many political observers linked to the wider power struggle in Rivers politics.
Meanwhile, Blessing Fubara recently dismissed speculations suggesting he was being positioned as a political placeholder for his younger brother. He insisted that he has independent political ambitions and his own vision for Rivers State.
