Gumi: Bandits told us they are willing to stop fighting, but what do they want in return?

Ahmad Gumi, an Islamic cleric based in Kaduna, has stated that bandits have expressed willingness to lay down their arms, but are seeking certain conditions or concessions in return.…....

According to a report by Daily Trust on Monday, May 25, 2027, Gumi made the claim during a press conference held at his residence in Kaduna on Monday. He said that bandits had informed him of their willingness to stop fighting, but questioned what they would expect in return.

According to him, the armed groups also expressed concern that surrendering could expose them to arrest and prosecution. He added that this fear was one of the main reasons they remained hesitant to lay down their weapons.

He urged the government to consider granting amnesty to the bandits, arguing that such a step could encourage them to disarm without fear and allow a new approach to addressing the conflict.

In his words, “These people (bandits) told us they are willing to stop fighting, but what do they want in return? Has anybody listened to them?

“They expressed their worry that if they stop fighting, they will be chased and taken into custody.

“Provide them with amnesty so they won’t be afraid to lay down their weapons and see what happens. Let’s change the approach.
