Thirty-nine-year-old Were was murdered in the wee hours of Sunday, May 24, after he left his house with a friend, only to be waylaid by armed attackers who killed him.

Speaking to Citizen TV, the survivor said that he and Were were walking when they saw a motorcycle, and they tried to stop it, thinking it would help ferry them to their destination.

“However, the boda did not stop; it rode for a few metres before stopping. Two people were on it. They turned to us, and we saw they had a metallic object which they hit him with. When I saw this, I ran off while screaming to seek help,” the survivor recounted.

“I found another boda rider and asked him to help me. By the time we came back, we found him on this side of the road. It appeared as if they had struggled and he had been left here to die,” he added.
