A woman was reportedly apprehended at Divine Mercy Hospital in Awada, Anambra State, after allegedly posing as a nurse and attempting to leave the facility with a newborn baby.
According to reports, the suspect gained access to the hospital while disguised as a healthcare worker. The situation took a dramatic turn when hospital staff became suspicious of her movements and raised an alarm.
The alert prompted an immediate response from hospital personnel, who intercepted the woman before she could leave the premises with the infant. The baby was safely recovered, while the suspect was detained for questioning.
Sources within the hospital said the incident has raised concerns about security measures in maternity wards and healthcare facilities, where newborns and mothers remain particularly vulnerable.
Authorities are expected to take over the investigation to determine how the woman gained access to the hospital, whether she acted alone, and what her intentions were.
