“If Dem Born Wike Well, Make E Call My Name” — Aisha Yesufu Fires Back As FCT Minister Mocks Her Failed NDC Senate Bid

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and activist Aisha Yesufu have traded words following her inability to emerge as the senatorial candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress for the FCT.

Yesufu had declared her intention to contest the FCT senatorial seat on May 6 after joining the NDC from the African Democratic Congress.

However, on Friday, she announced that the party would not be conducting primaries for the FCT Senate seat, effectively ending her bid for the ticket.

Reacting on Saturday at a luncheon for candidates of the Rainbow Coalition in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Wike mocked Yesufu, saying the activist, who he said was known for speaking “grammar,” could not win what he described as an ordinary NDC primary election in the FCT.

“There’s one woman who said Wike is an appointee of government and that she has no business with appointees. You speak grammar, speak grammar,” Wike said.

“Ordinary primary of NDC, not APC or PDP, just ordinary NDC, what happened? She didn’t make it.

“It’s easy for people to talk. When they enter into those media houses, they begin to churn out data from nowhere.

“Now, the time for data has come. What happened? ‘Fa fa fa foul. It didn’t work. If e didn’t dey? E didn’t dey.”

Responding in a post on her official X handle on Sunday, Yesufu challenged Wike to mention her name directly.

“If dem born Wike well, make e call my name with his full chest! What Tambuwal did him in 2022 will be child’s play,” she wrote.

Yesufu also reminded Wike of his failed presidential ambition in the Peoples Democratic Party in 2022, saying the minister also failed to win his party’s primary.

She alleged that Wike later lobbied to become running mate but was not chosen, before aligning with another political camp.

According to her, it was ironic for Wike to mock her over the NDC primary when he himself failed to secure the PDP presidential ticket in 2022.

She wrote that Wike “could not win primaries in 2022,” alleging that he “even lobbied for running mate and still was not chosen.”

Yesufu further accused the FCT minister of helping to destroy what she described as a party that was once the largest in Africa.

She added that if Wike summoned the courage to mention her name directly, he would know that people from the “Kukuruku empire of Edo State in South-South” do not grovel.

The exchange adds another layer to the growing political tension ahead of the 2027 elections, as opposition figures and political actors continue to clash over party platforms, primaries and public influence.
