Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said a US missile strike carried out on February 28 targeted a sports hall on the first day of the conflict and resulted in the deaths of 24 people, including a two-year-old child.…....
In a post shared on X, Baghaei stated that the attack involved airburst munitions that released what he described as “high-velocity tungsten pellets that tore through the area in every direction with devastating force.”
He further alleged that the nature of the strike indicated deliberate experimentation rather than accidental targeting.
“This was not a mistake – it was a calculated decision to test the destructive power of a new weapon system on Iranian civilians,” Baghaei said.
He added that the incident should be classified as a serious violation of international law, describing it as “a clear and despicable war crime.”
The Iranian Foreign Ministry maintained that the strike forms part of a wider pattern of attacks it attributes to US and Israeli military operations during the escalation period.
Washington has not issued a response to the specific allegations referenced in the statement.
Independent verification of the claims, including details of the weapon system described, has not been publicly confirmed by third-party sources at the time of reporting.
The incident is part of broader ongoing tensions between Iran and the United States following the recent conflict, which has seen repeated exchanges of accusations over civilian casualties, military conduct, and compliance with international humanitarian law.
